Pilot Evaluation of a Peer-Delivered Psychoeducation Program for Bipolar Disorder

UBC Department of Psychiatry

Project ongoing

The overarching goal of the CREST.BD “PolarUs for All of Us” project is to conduct a pilot evaluation of the feasibility, acceptability, and efficacy of a peer-delivered group psychoeducation program. This project addresses a number of limitations in the existing literature on peer-support for BD. First, the intervention has been specifically developed to focus on QoL-focused self-management and includes strategies with potential to optimise wellbeing across a broad range of life areas (including, but not limited, to symptoms). Second, content was developed with peers and will be presented by peers, which has the potential to fully leverage beneficial mechanisms of peer support. Third, the evaluation will include a qualitative follow-up, which will be used to identify potential mechanisms of change and to refine intervention delivery. Finally, the evaluation will utilize instruments to assess understudied yet important outcomes of peer support.
